Electrostatic precipitation of exhaled particles for tensiometric examination of pulmonary surfactant

چکیده

Collecting exhaled particles that represent small droplets of the alveolar lining fluid shows great promise as a tool for pulmonary surfactant (PS) sampling. In this work we present setup consisting two modules, namely, module droplet collecting, called an electrostatic aerosol trapping (ESAT) system, and measurement studying PS properties. We also suggest method to extract numerical values from experimental data. The operating principle ESAT is based on precipitation particles. Native material was collected directly water surface, where adsorbed film investigated by tensiometric method. modified capillary wave proposed in our previous adapted small-volume samples. efficiency verified experiments involved participation healthy subjects. accumulation components surface amount sufficient study reported. idea underlying new concept used may give impetus development point-of-care facilities collecting samples needed provide their express analysis. • Exhaled contains Electrostatic technique utilized measurements. introduced testing surfactant.

Inward electrostatic precipitation of interplanetary particles

An inward precipitator collects particles initially dispersed in a gas throughout either a cylindrical or spherical chamber onto a small central planchet. The instrument is effective for particle diameters greater than about 1 ,um. One use is the collection of interplanetary dust particles which are stopped in a noble gas (xenon) by drag and ablation after perforating the wall of a thin-walled ...

Electrostatic Precipitation

Electrostatic precipitators have been used widely in industry, and play an important role in environmental protection. Electrostatic precipitator (ESP) can be operated with a high collection efficiency and a low pressure drop. Recently, ESP also has been used for cleaning indoor air. In this review, principles of electrostatic precipitation, such as particle charging, migration velocity of char...

Surfactant Protein A in Exhaled Endogenous Particles Is Decreased in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Patients: A Pilot Study

BACKGROUND Exhaled, endogenous particles are formed from the epithelial lining fluid in small airways, where surfactant protein A (SP-A) plays an important role in pulmonary host defense. Based on the knowledge that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) starts in the small airway epithelium, we hypothesized that chronic inflammation modulates peripheral exhaled particle SP-A and albumin ...
